What are Group Initiatives?

Have you ever been on a small committee that had a specific task to do? That was a group initiative--a problem whose solution depended on the ideas and efforts of every group member. Our goal is to begin teaching participants how to function effectively together.

Group initiatives are mental and physical challenges that teach practical applications of the basic body life principles taught in 1 Corinthians 12 and 13. Much like a coach uses drills to develop playing skills, we use group initiatives to develop living together skills. What your group learns in this session depends upon what the group needs to learn, is ready to learn, and what goals the leader has intimated to us:

Is your group facing an important project? We may explore practical steps for facilitating smooth implementation.

Is there conflict within your group? It will most likely come out during the session and our instructor will help facilitate the resolution.

Are there factions in your group? The instructor will probably use group initiatives designed for unity.

Are there too many chiefs and not enough indians? We will probably do group initiatives that emphasize listening and considering others' ideas important.

As with most activities at DM, whether the group has a great time or a miserable time is completely dependent on their individual attitudes and how well they work together.
